Dean Village, next to Stockbridge in Scotland
Stockbridge Cottage celebrates the relationship between Old Scotia (Scotland) and New Scotia (Nova Scotia - Latin for New Scotland).
In the late 1700's, many people who lived in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland were forced to leave their rented homesteads.
With no place to go, great numbers of Scottish people immigrated to Nova Scotia. The journey that they faced took several months to complete and took the lives of many people. Those who lived through the horrendous journey faced harsh Canadian winters, the likes of which they had never before endured. Many did not survive that first winter. Those that did survive passed on the tenacious, rugged spirit that still lives on in the people of Nova Scotia today.
You will find the influence of these early Scottish settlers heavily ingrained in the culture of Nova Scotia and their ancestors have continued the traditions of a proud and hardy people.
Bill Dickson (born and raised in Old Scotland) and Donna Dickson (raised in New Scotland) are the owners of Scotia Vacations. They invite you to visit Stockbridge Cottage, named after the village where Bill was born and raised in Edinburgh Scotland. Immerse yourself in the vibrant and historical culture of this province.
We thank you in advance for considering Stockbridge Cottage as the place to spend your very hard-earned holiday/vacation dollars (pounds, Euros, etc). Please see our suggestions in the Things to See and Do section for ways to tailor your own, individual holiday experience that we hope you will treasure for a lifetime. Bill and Donna Dickson |
